Watching The Cover Come To Life
One of the great joys of publishing a book is designing the cover. The fact that I am not an artist is probably why I am attracted to it – it’s amazing to watching an idea come to life bit by bit.
The cover is what I am at now with my upcoming Mayo book entitled, I Can See It Still: All those years of Mayo football. And then 2026.
The latter half of that is the tagline and it works better visually than in a text-based post like this. Well, hopefully anyway…
Catherine Highton is working on the illustration with me. Catherine also illustrated my first two books, and is a real professional.
This time, Carolina Batista will take Catherine’s illustration and turn it into the finished cover. Carolina and I have worked together on multiple projects over the years, but this will be our first book cover together.
Carolina actually features in the book too. The weekend Mayo beat Louth, she was getting married to Eamon Loughlin, former Claregalway GAA player and club secretary, in Vila Real, near Porto. I was at the wedding and very glad of the company of fellow Mayo man Evin Walker as we kept an eye on events back home.
The book will be launched next month. We hope to have The Big Cover Reveal soon. Stand by…
