On the Way Out on RTÉ Radio 1
There was a lovely surprise on RTÉ Radio 1 yesterday.
Darina Molloy of Mayo County Libraries was a guest on Today with David McCullagh, alongside Tracy McEneaney of Waterford Libraries, for a segment on cosy autumn reads.
And, to my great delight, Darina included On the Way Out among the books she spoke about.
It is always a strange and very nice experience to hear somebody else talking about something you have written, particularly when they have picked up on the things you hoped might come through in the book.
Darina said that “you’d be turning the page and you really felt like you’ve met some of these people”.
That was a lovely compliment.
On the Way Out is, at heart, about people. It is about a town too, of course, and a way of life that has changed greatly over the years, so it was also great to hear Darina speak about its sense of rural life and the place of the town within that.
It was also great to see Mayo County Libraries giving space to a local book in a segment like this.
