Poetry and prose, close to home

For writers and readers in this part of the world (Co. Mayo, west of Ireland), the next few days offer two good reasons to leave the house and sit in a room with people of similar disposition.

Tonight (Wednesday, 4 March) at 7.30, poet Terry McDonagh is the guest reader at the incredible The Novel Bean in Swinford. A native of nearby Kiltimagh, Terry’s work has travelled widely, as he has himself through years of lecturing and readings at home and abroad.

Poet Terry McDonagh

There is something powerful about welcoming a poet of such range and experience back into a local room. More here on The Novel Bean’s Facebook page:

Then on Monday (9 March) at 6.30pm, I will be the guest reader at Open Mic at The Linenhall Arts Centre. It is a monthly gathering and one I regularly attend and read at. Ergo, it will feel strange to assume the guest reading role. I’ve written here before about the Open Mic.

I will read from my first novel, On The Way Out, and from Good As It Gets, the second book in the Rathfin series, which I’m currently won.

Come along. Don’t be shy. All are welcome.

More here from my blog.
