This year’s Culture Night in Ballinrobe will include an exciting experiment in creativity, as writers and visual artists come together for a groundbreaking exhibition exploring the dynamic relationship between words and images. Scheduled for Friday, 20 September, this collaborative project is an opportunity for visual artists and writers – whether professional, amateur or hobbyist – to join forces and create something truly original.
The concept is simple yet powerful: a visual artist will provide a piece of work to a writer, who will respond through their writing. This dialogue between different forms of expression is the heart of the experiment. The 20 September exhibition will feature each piece of art and the written response for each one.
This initiative aims to tap into the rich vein of emerging talent in Ballinrobe and the surrounding region. Organisers Paul Malone and Liam Horan are calling on all local visual artists and writers who are interested in participating to volunteer.
“Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just beginning to explore your creative side, we want to hear from you. This is your chance to be part of something special – an exhibition that not only showcases the talent in our community but also celebrates the collaborative spirit of Culture Night,” said Paul Malone.
To participate, writers can contact Liam at liam@liamhoran.info, and visual artists can get in touch with Paul at BallinrobeCommunityArts@gmail.com. Time is tight, so interested writers and visual artists should make contact before Friday, August 30. Visual artists should include an image of the work they wish to have interpreted by a writer. Paul and Liam will match visual artists and writers.
“We look forward to unveiling the works on Culture Night. Whether you’re an art lover, a literature enthusiast or simply curious to see what happens when two forms of expression collide, this exhibition is not to be missed,” said Liam.
An annual, all-island public event which takes place each year on the second last Friday of September, Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir celebrates culture, creativity and the arts and seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives, today and every day.
